Junior Orchestra
The South Ayrshire Junior String Orchestra is probably one of the largest orchestras of its kind in Scotland. 120 young string players from primary schools across the authority combine to rehearse an eclectic mix of music from chart hits to friendly arrangements of the great classics.
The orchestra’s conductor is Mr O’Connell, whose charismatic and dynamic approach ensures that the children have a fun and rewarding musical experience. Mr O’Connell is ably supported during rehearsals by Miss Connell, Mrs Herbert and Miss Campbell.
The orchestra rehearses for 13 Fridays and the season culminates in a performance at the Orchestra Showcase Concert in Ayr Town Hall in February. In recent years the orchestra has given a further performance at the Ayrshire Music Festival in March.

Senior Orchestra
The South Ayrshire Senior Orchestra provides secondary school pupils with the opportunity perform in a full symphony orchestra. Young musicians from across the authority join together to rehearse and perform a mix of orchestral repertoire from Beethoven to John Williams.
The orchestra’s conductor is Mrs Hendry who is assisted by a team of specialist staff who have the opportunity to undertake rehearsals with the various sections of the orchestra.
The orchestra rehearses for 13 Fridays and the season culminates in a performance at the Orchestra Showcase Concert in Ayr Town Hall.

Chamber Orchestra
Chamber Orchestra
The South Ayrshie Chamber Orchestra provides an excellent opportunity for our most advance musicians to participate in a high
quality orchestral experience. Entry into this orchestra is by audition only after which musicians can keep their place until the end of S6.
The orchestra normally rehearses over two residential weekends which take place in Dolphin House on the Culzean Estate. Details are issued at the start of each academic year.
The Orchestra participate in two concerts each year: The first concert in January with Ayrshire Voices; the second concert in February with both South Ayrshire Senior and Junior Orchestras.
